The Indian Ministry of Defence has signed contracts worth more than ₹53,000 crore with Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers and Goa Shipyard to acquire eight Next Generation Corvettes for the Indian Navy.

The Ministry of Defence has sealed contracts worth over ₹53,000 crore to procure eight Next Generation Corvettes (NGCs) for the Indian Navy. The agreements were signed with Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Limited (GRSE) and Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL).

The NGCs are advanced warships designed for coastal patrol, anti‑submarine warfare and maritime surveillance. They will be built at the respective shipyards, with delivery schedules to be finalized in the coming years.

This procurement is part of the navy’s ongoing modernization drive to replace aging vessels and strengthen maritime security in the Indian Ocean Region. The new corvettes will enhance the navy’s blue‑water capabilities and enable rapid deployment across strategic sectors.

The Ministry of Defence announced the contracts as a key step toward bolstering India’s maritime deterrence and ensuring a robust naval presence along its extensive coastline.
