The tropical cyclone named Murasu is advancing towards the Andhra Pradesh coastline, prompting weather warnings and preparatory measures.

A low‑pressure system over the Bay of Bengal has intensified into Cyclone Murasu, now classified as a severe tropical storm. Satellite imagery shows the system tracking westward at a steady pace, with wind speeds expected to exceed 120 km/h as it approaches the eastern seaboard of Andhra Pradesh.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for several coastal districts, warning of heavy rainfall, storm surges and possible flooding. State disaster management officials have activated emergency response teams, pre‑positioned relief supplies and urged residents in vulnerable villages to move to higher ground.

Travel advisories have been circulated, recommending that fishermen keep their vessels ashore and that commuters avoid non‑essential travel along coastal highways. Power utilities are on standby to address potential outages, and schools in the most exposed areas have been temporarily closed.

Experts note that cyclones of this magnitude are not uncommon during the pre‑monsoon season, but the rapid intensification of Murasu underscores the need for continued vigilance and community preparedness.
