India’s cabinet has approved a Rs 2,814‑crore scheme to provide capital support for lithium and nickel processing, with maximum assistance of Rs 500 crore per lithium project and Rs 900 crore per nickel project.
The Indian cabinet has approved a Rs 2,814‑crore scheme aimed at boosting domestic processing of critical minerals such as lithium and nickel.
Under the scheme, the government will provide capital support to eligible projects, with a maximum cap of Rs 500 crore per lithium beneficiary and Rs 900 crore per nickel beneficiary.
The move is part of India’s strategy to secure supply chains for battery‑making materials and reduce dependence on imports.
Industry experts say the funding could accelerate the development of local processing units and help the country meet growing demand for electric‑vehicle components.
