BOOM Fact Check has identified a viral video featuring deepfakes of S. Jaishankar and Sergey Lavrov as fake, debunking claims of a diplomatic break between India and Russia.
A viral video circulating on social media has falsely suggested a diplomatic rift between India and Russia. The clip features artificial intelligence-generated imagery, or deepfakes, of External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in a purported meeting.
BOOM, a fact-checking organization, has analyzed the content and confirmed that the video is fabricated. The analysis revealed that the faces of the two officials were manipulated to create a misleading narrative about the state of bilateral relations.
The spread of such misinformation has led to false claims regarding a breakdown in ties between New Delhi and Moscow. The fact-check serves as a reminder for the public to verify the authenticity of digital media before sharing content that could influence geopolitical perceptions.
This incident highlights the growing challenge of AI-generated disinformation in the digital space, particularly concerning high-profile diplomatic figures from major global powers.
