Patna’s CBI special court sentenced transport contractor D.N. Singh to one year, four months and 18 days in prison and imposed a fine of Rs 2.9 million for his role in the Alkatra fraud.
The CBI‑designated special court in Patna handed down a custodial sentence to transport contractor D.N. Singh, also known as D.N. Singh, for his participation in the widely reported Alkatra fraud in Bihar. The judgment imposes a term of one year, four months and eighteen days of simple imprisonment. In addition, the court levied a monetary penalty of Rs 2.9 million.
The Alkatra case, which has drawn extensive media attention across the state, involves the alleged misappropriation of funds linked to a government‑run welfare scheme. Singh, who operated as a transporter for the scheme, was found guilty of facilitating the diversion of resources, thereby breaching both legal and ethical standards.
Alongside the jail term, the court ordered the payment of the fine within a stipulated period and granted Singh the right to appeal the decision in a higher tribunal. Authorities indicated that the sentencing aims to reinforce accountability among officials and private partners associated with public welfare programs.
