The Rajasthan High Court has directed the state government and the Public Service Commission to recalculate category-wise posts and issue a revised merit list for the 2016 Sub-Inspector recruitment within 180 days, ensuring compliance with the 50% reservation limit.

The Rajasthan High Court has issued a significant directive regarding the ongoing controversy surrounding the Sub-Inspector (SI) recruitment of 2016. A bench led by Justice Ashok Kumar Jain has ordered the state government and the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) to recalculate the category-wise allocation of posts. The court emphasized that the revised merit list must strictly adhere to the constitutional mandate of a 50% reservation limit.

The judicial order mandates that the authorities must complete the recalculation and release the new merit list within a strict timeline of 180 days. This decision aims to resolve long-standing irregularities in the previous selection process, ensuring that the distribution of vacancies among general and reserved categories is mathematically accurate and legally compliant.

The court's intervention highlights the importance of transparency in public sector recruitment in Rajasthan. By ordering a fresh count of posts, the bench seeks to eliminate any discrepancies that may have arisen from the initial calculation, thereby safeguarding the rights of candidates from all categories.

The state administration and the RPSC are now expected to comply with this timeline, submitting the revised data to the court for verification. This move is likely to bring closure to the legal battles that have plagued the 2016 SI recruitment cycle for several years.
