The state government has earmarked ₹90.72 lakh for the fourth‑year maintenance of Panchayat Van, Bel Van and Amrit Van plantations across 304 talukas, contingent on at least 90% sapling survival amid ongoing drought.

The Maharashtra government has released ₹90.72 lakh to support the fourth‑year upkeep of its ‘Panchayat Van’, ‘Bel Van’ and ‘Amrit Van’ plantation programmes across 304 talukas facing severe drought.

The allocation is conditional: the funds will be released only if at least 90% of the saplings planted in the previous years survive the dry spell. This measure aims to ensure that the state’s green cover is maintained during a period of water scarcity.

‘Panchayat Van’ focuses on community‑managed trees, ‘Bel Van’ on cultivating the prized bel (wood apple) trees, and ‘Amrit Van’ on a variety of ornamental and medicinal species. Together, these projects contribute to local biodiversity, soil conservation and climate resilience.

By tying disbursement to survival rates, the government hopes to incentivise proper care and monitoring of the plantations, thereby strengthening Maharashtra’s environmental safeguards against future droughts.
