The Chief Secretary of Nagaland called for the introduction of industry‑oriented courses, citing a widening skill gap among the state's youth.

Kohima, Oct 30 (India Today NE) – The Chief Secretary of Nagaland highlighted the growing mismatch between the skills of job‑seekers and the requirements of local industries. In a statement, he urged educational institutions to design and launch courses that are closely aligned with the needs of sectors such as tourism, agriculture, and emerging manufacturing.

He noted that despite a rise in enrollment, many graduates lack practical competencies, which hampers employability and slows economic growth. The secretary recommended a collaborative framework involving industry bodies, technical institutes, and the state government to develop curricula that incorporate hands‑on training and apprenticeship components.

The call comes as the state seeks to attract investment and create more jobs for its young population. Officials said they will convene a task force within weeks to map skill demands and formulate actionable recommendations for colleges and vocational centers.

Stakeholders are expected to submit proposals for new programmes by the end of the next quarter, aiming for a phased rollout in the upcoming academic year.
