Mizoram's state government has announced Operation Jericho 2, a large‑scale anti‑drug drive, in the wake of a seizure worth Rs 843 crore.
The Mizoram government unveiled Operation Jericho 2 on Monday, marking a renewed offensive against narcotics trafficking after authorities confiscated drugs valued at roughly Rs 843 crore. The seizure, described as one of the largest in the state's recent history, involved a mixture of synthetic and plant‑based substances intercepted at multiple checkpoints.
State officials said the operation will mobilise police, the Narcotics Control Bureau and local anti‑drug squads to intensify surveillance, conduct raids and dismantle distribution networks across the border districts. Training sessions and intelligence sharing with neighbouring states are also being ramped up to curb cross‑border smuggling.
Authorities emphasized that the crackdown aims to protect vulnerable communities, especially youth, from the growing menace of drug abuse. While no arrests have been publicly disclosed yet, the government has pledged swift legal action against anyone found linked to the seized consignments.
