Police in Mumbai detained a man after complaints that he was secretly recording women on local trains, altering the footage and uploading the images on Instagram.
Mumbai police said they arrested a man on suspicion of secretly filming female commuters on the city’s suburban railway network. The detention followed multiple complaints from passengers who reported seeing a camera being used without consent.
According to the investigation, the suspect captured video footage inside train compartments, used digital tools to morph the images, and later posted the altered visuals on his Instagram account. The posts reportedly featured the women’s faces blended with other elements, raising concerns about privacy violations.
Authorities have registered a case under sections of the Indian Penal Code dealing with voyeurism and the Information Technology Act for illegal use of electronic media. The police have warned commuters to remain vigilant and report any similar incidents, while the investigation continues to determine the extent of the content shared online.
