The Mizoram government has ordered that schools may not share student information with artificial‑intelligence platforms unless they obtain prior government clearance.

The education department of Mizoram issued a directive prohibiting all schools in the state from providing any student data to artificial‑intelligence services without explicit approval from the government. The order, circulated to school principals and administrative officers, states that any sharing of personal or academic information with AI platforms must be preceded by a formal request and clearance from the state authority.

Officials said the measure aims to safeguard minors' privacy and prevent misuse of sensitive data as AI tools become more prevalent in educational settings. Schools found violating the directive could face disciplinary action, including fines or revocation of certain operational permissions.

The move reflects growing concerns across India about data protection in the digital age, especially as AI applications are increasingly marketed to schools for tutoring, assessment and administrative purposes. The Mizoram government has urged educational institutions to adopt secure, government‑approved digital solutions while the policy is under review.
