The Madhya Pradesh government approved two fresh loans in September – ₹800 crore for 18 years and ₹700 croor for 30 years – marking its third borrowing round this month.

The state cabinet of Madhya Pradesh gave the nod to two separate loan agreements in September, bringing the total fresh borrowing to ₹1,500 crore. One loan of ₹800 crore will be serviced over an 18‑year tenure, while the second, amounting to ₹7 00 crore, is slated for a 30‑year repayment schedule.

This marks the third tranche of borrowing the state has undertaken in September, reflecting a continued reliance on external financing to fund its fiscal commitments. The loans are expected to support ongoing development projects and bridge short‑term revenue gaps.

State officials have not disclosed the exact interest rates or the lenders involved, but the financing is likely to be sourced from market instruments such as bonds or institutional lenders. The borrowing aligns with the state’s broader financial strategy to manage its deficit while maintaining expenditure on infrastructure and welfare schemes.

Analysts note that repeated borrowing within a single month could raise concerns about the state’s fiscal health, yet the government maintains that the funds will be deployed in projects that generate long‑term economic benefits.

The finance ministry of Madhya Pradesh will monitor the repayment schedule closely to ensure that the debt servicing does not strain the state’s budget in the coming years.
