The Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Ludhiana visited local agricultural fields to discourage stubble burning and directly appealed to farmers to avoid setting fires to crop residue.

In an effort to curb environmental pollution and prevent fire-related incidents, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Ludhiana conducted a surprise visit to agricultural fields in the district. The official aimed to address the recurring issue of stubble burning, which poses significant risks to air quality and public safety.

During the field visit, the SDM interacted directly with local farmers to understand their concerns regarding the disposal of crop residue. Instead of issuing immediate penalties, the administration chose a proactive approach by appealing to the farmers to refrain from setting fire to the stubble.

The administration emphasized the legal and environmental consequences of burning agricultural waste, urging farmers to adopt safer and more sustainable methods for residue management. The SDM stressed that while the primary goal is to prevent fire incidents, the cooperation of the farming community is essential for maintaining a clean environment.

This initiative is part of broader efforts in Punjab to manage post-harvest waste effectively. Local authorities are focusing on awareness campaigns and on-ground supervision to ensure that farmers are aware of the regulations and the available alternatives to open burning.
