Kerala's government will compile records of drivers involved in accidents and launch a statewide digital platform to monitor road safety, officials said.
The Kerala government announced a new initiative to systematically profile drivers who have been involved in road accidents. Under the scheme, data from police reports and traffic authorities will be consolidated to create individual driver histories that can be accessed by enforcement agencies.
A dedicated statewide road‑safety monitoring platform will be built to integrate these profiles with real‑time traffic data, accident hotspots and compliance metrics. The platform aims to enable quicker identification of high‑risk drivers and support targeted interventions such as refresher training, license suspensions or penalties.
Transport officials said the system will be rolled out in phases, beginning with pilot districts before extending to the entire state. The move is part of Kerala's broader effort to reduce its road‑fatality rate, which remains higher than the national average.
Stakeholders, including driver unions and road‑safety NGOs, have been consulted to ensure the profiling process respects privacy norms while enhancing public safety. The government expects the digital tool to improve enforcement efficiency and ultimately lower accident-related deaths.
Implementation is slated to begin early next year, with regular updates to be published by the Transport Department.
