Indian-American Support for Trump Wanes Amid Racism and Immigration Crackdowns

The Indian diaspora in the United States had rallied behind former President Donald Trump during the 2016 election, drawn by his business‑friendly rhetoric and promises to curb illegal immigration. However, a series of high‑profile incidents of racial hostility against South Asians, coupled with Trump’s hard‑line immigration policies, have begun to erode that support. The administration’s travel bans and increased border enforcement have directly impacted Indian families, creating uncertainty and fear. Recent community surveys and statements from Indian‑American leaders indicate a growing disillusionment, with many expressing a desire for more inclusive leadership.
