Tamil Nadu has introduced a comprehensive energy policy aimed at overhauling its power grid, improving energy security and lowering power purchase costs.

The Tamil Nadu government announced the rollout of a new energy policy designed to modernise the state’s power grid and address chronic supply gaps. The framework focuses on strengthening energy security by diversifying supply sources and accelerating the integration of renewable generation. It also seeks to slash power purchase costs for distribution companies, a move expected to translate into lower tariffs for households and businesses. To facilitate swift implementation, a dedicated single‑window online portal has been launched, allowing developers and investors to submit applications and monitor approvals in one place. Officials said the initiative will attract private investment, reduce load‑shedding and set a benchmark for grid modernization across India.
