The Election Commission has issued a new order placing IT Director General Seema Khanna under the supervision of Pawan Kumar Sharma, amid ongoing allegations of internal dissent.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has introduced additional checks on its staff, specifically targeting the Information Technology (IT) division, in the wake of a row over allegations of internal dissent. The move comes as the Commission seeks to tighten administrative control and ensure operational clarity within its technical wings.
A key provision of the order, dated November 4, places IT Director General Seema Khanna under the direct supervision of Pawan Kumar Sharma. This structural change aims to streamline command and control within the IT department, which plays a critical role in managing electoral data and digital infrastructure.
Furthermore, the order assigns Deputy Election Commissioner (DEC) Prakash Rajpurohit a supporting role in election planning. This inclusion is intended to bolster the planning process by leveraging senior administrative experience alongside technical expertise.
The reshuffle is viewed as a strategic step to address concerns regarding internal coordination and to reinforce the hierarchy within the Commission’s IT operations.
