The Delhi government has refurbished 1,200 rainwater harvesting structures across the city to improve groundwater levels.

Delhi's municipal authorities have completed the renovation of 1,200 rainwater harvesting installations spread across the capital. The overhaul involved cleaning, repairing and upgrading the collection and storage components to ensure that more rainwater is captured during the monsoon season.

The move is part of the city's broader strategy to address chronic groundwater depletion and reduce dependence on external water supplies. Officials say that the refurbished systems are expected to channel a larger volume of runoff into underground aquifers, thereby raising the water table over time.

The renovation was carried out under the existing water‑conservation programme, with teams working in residential colonies, schools and public buildings. Authorities will monitor recharge rates in the coming months to assess the impact of the upgraded infrastructure.
