From today, Delhi's authorities have introduced fresh pollution control guidelines that dictate which vehicles and travel modes commuters may use.
The Delhi government announced that, starting today, a set of pollution mitigation rules will govern commuter traffic across the capital. The measures are aimed at curbing the city’s deteriorating air quality by limiting the use of high‑emission vehicles during peak pollution periods.
The guidelines, issued by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee in coordination with the transport department, specify which categories of vehicles are permitted and which are barred from operating on certain routes. Commuters are urged to check official notifications before planning their journeys.
Enforcement will be carried out by traffic police and environmental officers, who will monitor compliance and levy penalties for violations. The authorities have also advised the public to consider alternative, low‑emission modes such as public transit, car‑pooling, and non‑motorised options where feasible.
These rules will remain in force until air‑quality readings improve, after which the government will review and adjust the restrictions as needed.
