The Air Quality Management Commission has adopted a strict stance against crop residue burning in Punjab, issuing show-cause notices to officials in Jalandhar, Faridkot, Bathinda, Barnala, and Fazilka.

The Air Quality Management Commission (AQMC) has tightened its grip on crop residue burning in Punjab by issuing show-cause notices to senior administrative and police officials. The commission has directed the District Magistrates (DCs) and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSPs) of five specific districts to explain their actions regarding the management of stubble burning.

The notices have been sent to officials in Jalandhar, Faridkot, Bathinda, Barnala, and Fazilka. This move signals a strict approach by the regulatory body to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and to mitigate the impact of air pollution caused by burning agricultural waste.

By targeting both the administrative and law enforcement wings, the AQMC aims to ensure effective monitoring and enforcement of bans on stubble burning. The officials are now required to submit a detailed explanation regarding the measures taken or the reasons for any lapses in preventing the burning of crop residue in their respective jurisdictions.
