Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has levelled sharp criticism at the Uttar Pradesh government, alleging that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath prioritised his home constituency over the two Varanasi seats in the recent Legislative Council elections.
The allegations were made in the context of the final tally declared on Thursday afternoon for the 11 MLC seats that went to the polls on October 23. According to the results, the Bharatiya Janata Party secured six seats, while the Samajwadi Party managed to increase its representation by two seats compared to the previous MLC polls.
Akhilesh Yadav’s comments highlight the political rivalry between the two major parties in the state, with the SP leader suggesting that strategic decisions were made to favour the Chief Minister’s strongholds rather than contesting aggressively in Varanasi.
