India's Agnipath scheme has undergone a significant revision, offering 75% of Agniveers two additional years of service, increased salaries, and a pathway to join the regular armed forces.
The Indian government has introduced a major reset to the Agnipath scheme, aiming to enhance the appeal of military service for young recruits. The revised framework specifically targets the majority of the force, ensuring that 75% of Agniveers receive extended tenure and better financial incentives.
Under the new rules, these Agniveers will be granted two additional years of service beyond the initial term. This extension is coupled with a revision in pay scales, providing higher remuneration to improve the overall package for those serving in the armed forces.
A key feature of this rejig is the provision for career progression. The updated guidelines offer a chance for selected Agniveers to join the regular armed forces after completing their initial service period, thereby creating a clearer path for long-term military careers.
This strategic adjustment reflects an effort to address previous concerns regarding the short duration of service and to make the Agnipath program more attractive to prospective candidates across the country.
