In a daring escape that has sent shockwaves through security forces, 43 LTTE militants, including four women, escaped from Vellore Fort in Tamil Nadu. The extremists managed to dig a 153-foot tunnel from a bathroom in the Tippu Mahal, an old structure within the fort, all the way to the moat surrounding the facility. They then slipped out in batches, evading the watchful eyes of guards. The escape has raised serious questions about the security measures in place at the camp, which was heavily guarded with five watchtowers and two companies of the Central Reserve Police Force assisting the Tamil Nadu Police.
