Uttarakhand rescue teams resume search for eight missing trekkers on Kedartal trek

Uttarakhand's mountain rescue teams have resumed a coordinated search for eight trekkers who were reported missing on the Kedartal trail, a high‑altitude route near Kedarnath. The operation, which was temporarily halted due to adverse weather, was re‑initiated as conditions improved, with personnel from the state disaster management authority and forest department joining the effort.

Authorities have deployed ground teams equipped with GPS devices and portable communication gear to cover the rugged terrain. Helicopter support is also on standby to provide aerial surveillance and rapid evacuation if needed.

Family members of the missing have been informed that the search will continue throughout the day, and officials have urged the public to avoid the area to allow unhindered rescue work.

The Kedartal trek, popular among adventure seekers, traverses glacial lakes and steep ridges, making any delay in rescue operations potentially hazardous. Officials emphasized that trekkers should be adequately prepared and carry emergency supplies.

The situation remains fluid, and updates will be provided as the search progresses.
