The annual Thevar Jayanthi guru puja began today in Tamil Nadu with extensive police deployment to ensure law and order.
Tamil Nadu witnessed the start of the Thevar Jayanthi guru puja, a key observance for the Thevar community, on Tuesday. The ceremony, which marks the birth anniversary of community leader Pasumpon Muthuramalingam Thevar, was held at traditional venues across the state.
State police officials announced a heightened security arrangement, deploying a large contingent of personnel around the main gathering points. The move follows previous incidents of crowd unrest during the festival, prompting authorities to adopt precautionary measures.
Organisers welcomed the police presence, stating that it would help devotees perform the rituals without disruption. The event is expected to draw thousands of participants who will offer prayers and cultural performances throughout the day.
Local administration has also set up medical aid stations and traffic management teams to facilitate smooth movement of devotees. The celebrations are slated to continue for several days, culminating in a final procession later this week.
