A sanitation worker from Santemajra died after setting himself on fire outside an apartment society in Mohali's Sector 116. His son alleged that the man was harassed when demanding his unpaid salary.

A tragic incident occurred in Mohali, Punjab, where a sanitation worker died after setting himself on fire. The incident took place on October 22 outside the main gate of Somdatraj Landmark Apartment Society in Sector 116, located on Landrana-Kharar Road.

The deceased, identified as a resident of Santemajra village, reportedly suffered from severe financial distress. According to his son, the worker had not received his salary for seven months. The family alleges that whenever the worker demanded payment, he faced harassment from the authorities or management responsible for his wages.

The incident has sparked local concern regarding the working conditions and timely payment of wages for sanitation staff in residential societies. Local residents and family members gathered at the scene, expressing grief over the loss of life due to prolonged non-payment of dues.

Police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances leading to the suicide. Authorities are looking into the claims of harassment and the financial records of the society to determine the exact timeline of unpaid wages.
