The Supreme Court has clarified that its earlier decision allowing the Election Commission to use 'logical discrepancy' checks in voter lists in West Bengal was temporary. The court stated that the legal questions surrounding the revision process remain unresolved.

The Supreme Court of India has reiterated that the legality of the Election Commission's 'logical discrepancy' checks in voter lists is still under consideration. A bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana clarified that their earlier decision allowing the EC to use this category in West Bengal was only an interim measure. The court emphasized that the ruling on the SIR exercise in Bihar had not settled every legal question surrounding the revision process.
