The state of Sikkim has opened an organic farming school in its capital, Gangtok, aimed at advancing sustainable agricultural practices.
Sikkim's government has officially launched an organic farming school in Gangtok, the state's capital. The institution is designed to provide hands‑on training and scientific knowledge to farmers, agronomists and students interested in environmentally friendly cultivation methods.
The new school aligns with Sikkim's long‑standing commitment to organic agriculture; the state was the first in India to declare itself fully organic. By offering structured courses, demonstration plots and research support, the centre aims to deepen the expertise of local cultivators and encourage wider adoption of organic techniques across the region.
Officials expect the school to become a hub for capacity building, helping young entrepreneurs and existing farmers transition to sustainable practices that protect the fragile Himalayan ecosystem while maintaining livelihoods.
