Punjab Records Largest Daily Farm Fire Spike Amid Heatwave

Punjab's agriculture department reported a record daily count of farm fires on a recent day, marking the biggest spike of the season. The blazes, primarily in the western districts, were attributed to extreme heat and dry conditions that have plagued the state for weeks. Authorities are investigating the incidents and urging farmers to adopt fire‑safe practices. The spike underscores the need for better monitoring and rapid response systems to protect crops and livelihoods. Officials have called for increased resources for fire‑fighting equipment and training.
