A Punjab MLA has called for increased sports participation among youth to curb substance abuse.

The MLA from Jalandhar, Punjab, spoke at a local community gathering on Tuesday, urging authorities to promote sports as a tool to keep youth away from substance abuse.
He highlighted the rising trend of drug use among adolescents and stressed that organized sports can provide constructive outlets.
The legislator called on the state government to allocate more resources for sports infrastructure and coaching in schools.
He also suggested partnerships with local clubs to create youth leagues.
The MLA’s remarks come as Punjab faces a growing concern over drug addiction among its younger population.
