An Ohio appeals court has confirmed a 2021 agreement that split the proceeds of a house sale, ordering the man to pay his former partner $41,466.50.

The dispute stemmed from a 2021 written agreement between an Ohio couple that stipulated an equal division of any proceeds should they sell their jointly owned home. Both parties signed the contract before their relationship ended.

After the property was sold, the man refused to transfer the agreed share to his former partner, arguing that she had not contributed sufficiently to renovation costs. He sought to retain the entire sale amount, contending that the agreement should be voided.

An appellate court reviewed the case and upheld the original 2021 contract, ruling that the man's refusal was unjustified. The court ordered him to pay the woman $41,466.50, the amount she was entitled to under the agreement.

The decision reinforces the enforceability of written property‑division agreements in Ohio, even after a breakup, and highlights the courts' willingness to honor contractual commitments in domestic financial matters.
