New Gecko Species Unveiled in Assam's Dima Hasao by Mizoram University Team

Scientists from Mizoram University announced the discovery of a new gecko species during a recent field survey in the Dima Hasao district of Assam. The team collected several specimens and performed detailed morphological analyses, confirming that the lizard does not match any known species in the region. The find adds a new member to the rich reptilian fauna of Northeast India and highlights the biodiversity potential of the district’s forest ecosystems. Researchers emphasized that documenting such species is crucial for conservation planning and for understanding ecological dynamics in the area. The discovery is expected to prompt further herpetological studies in Assam’s undisturbed habitats.
