Madhya Pradesh administration is preparing for the 2027 census by freezing administrative transfers and boundary changes from January to March. The census will include a general 'other' category alongside SC/ST, but no separate count for OBCs.
The administration of Madhya Pradesh has accelerated preparations for the upcoming 2027 census. To ensure accurate demographic data, the state government has decided to impose a freeze on administrative transfers and changes to administrative boundaries. This restriction will be in effect from January to March, with the aim of maintaining stability in official postings during the critical data collection phase.
Regarding the categorization of social groups in the census, it has been clarified that there will be no separate count for the Other Backward Classes (OBC). Instead, the census form will include options for Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST), along with a general 'other' category for all remaining groups. This approach aligns with standard census practices while simplifying the data collection process for the state.
The decision to freeze transfers and boundary modifications is part of a broader strategy to minimize administrative disruptions during the census period. By keeping the administrative structure stable, the state aims to ensure that the data collected is consistent and reliable. Officials are currently finalizing the logistical arrangements to support this nationwide exercise within the state's jurisdiction.
