A large flock of migratory flamingos has been spotted at Sambhar Lake in Rajasthan, drawing attention from birdwatchers and tourists.

Sambhar Lake, the largest saline lake in India and a designated bird sanctuary, welcomed a significant number of migratory flamingos this week. The birds, arriving from their wintering grounds in Central Asia, were seen feeding in the shallow waters and forming characteristic V-shaped formations over the lake.
Local wildlife officials confirmed that the arrival aligns with the typical migration window for the species, which usually spans from October to February. They noted that the lake's high salinity and abundant food sources provide an ideal habitat for the flamingos during the harsh winter months.
The sighting has sparked interest among birdwatchers and nature photographers, many of whom have gathered at the lake's observation points. Authorities have urged visitors to maintain a safe distance to avoid disturbing the birds and to follow the sanctuary's guidelines.
Preliminary counts suggest that several hundred flamingos are present, though exact numbers will be confirmed after a detailed survey. The influx is expected to boost eco‑tourism in the region, benefitting local communities while highlighting the importance of conserving wetland ecosystems.
Officials continue to monitor water levels and habitat conditions at Sambhar Lake to ensure it remains a viable stopover for migratory species in the coming months.
