The Meghalaya government announced plans to set up new customs stations along its border with Bangladesh, aiming to streamline trade and increase bilateral commerce.

The Meghalaya government has unveiled a plan to establish several new customs stations along its border with Bangladesh. The initiative is intended to simplify clearance procedures and reduce waiting times for traders crossing the frontier.
Officials say the new stations will be equipped with modern technology and staffed by trained personnel to expedite documentation and inspection processes. By cutting bureaucratic delays, the state hopes to attract more traders and encourage the flow of goods such as agricultural produce and handicrafts.
The move is expected to boost bilateral trade volumes and create employment opportunities for local communities. Meghalaya’s commerce department has outlined a phased implementation schedule, with the first stations slated to become operational by the end of the fiscal year.
While the exact locations of the new customs posts have not yet been finalized, the government has indicated that they will be strategically positioned to serve key trade corridors between the two countries.
