Matthew Perry documentary tops Netflix’s weekly English TV chart

Netflix’s latest weekly report shows that a documentary chronicling the life and career of late actor Matthew Perry entered the English‑language TV segment at the top spot. The film, which combines archival footage with interviews from colleagues and friends, attracted considerable viewership in its opening week, outpacing all other English‑language series on the platform. IMDb’s ranking data confirms the documentary’s leading position, reflecting strong audience interest in biographical content about Hollywood figures.
Industry analysts note that the documentary’s success underscores a growing appetite for streaming‑first nonfiction programming, especially when it focuses on well‑known personalities. The film’s performance also highlights Netflix’s strategy of diversifying its catalog with high‑profile documentaries alongside scripted series.
While the documentary enjoys the number‑one ranking, other non‑English titles such as “Lupin” Part 4 are also drawing significant global attention, indicating a broader shift in viewer preferences toward varied linguistic offerings.
Netflix has not released detailed viewership numbers, but the ranking suggests the documentary will remain a key draw for subscribers throughout the week.
The documentary is expected to continue its run on the platform, potentially influencing future commissions of similar biographical projects.
