Ladakh Rolls Back Excise Policy After Public Outcry

The Ladakh administration has announced the rollback of its Excise Policy 2026-27, which was implemented on June 1st. The policy, aimed at regulating the sale and consumption of alcohol in the region, faced strong opposition from residents and social organizations who expressed concerns about its potential impact on local communities. Following these representations, the administration decided to withdraw the policy on August 26th.
