The state government is reviewing ten sites proposed by district collectors of Kottayam, Kasaragod and Thrissur for a new AIIMS, pending approval from Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan.
Kerala's Health Minister K. Muraleedharan announced that ten prospective locations for a new All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) have been identified. The sites were recommended by the district collectors of Kottayam, Kasaragod and Thrissur and are now under the scrutiny of Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan.
The information was disclosed during a response to a calling‑attention motion raised by G. Sudhakaran in the state assembly. Muraleedharan said the reports submitted by the collectors are being examined to ensure the chosen location meets the criteria for an AIIMS campus.
If approved, the AIIMS project would add a premier medical institution to Kerala's healthcare infrastructure, complementing existing government hospitals and medical colleges. The final decision rests with the chief minister, who will evaluate the feasibility and strategic importance of each site before forwarding a recommendation to the central government.
