Punjab police have opened an investigation after a complaint alleged illegal cattle trade in Jalandhar.

Earlier this week, local authorities in Jalandhar received a complaint alleging that a network was involved in the illegal transport and sale of cattle, a violation of the state's livestock protection laws.
Police officials said they have registered a case under the relevant sections of the Punjab Animal Husbandry Act and have begun gathering evidence, including statements from witnesses and a preliminary search of suspected premises.
In addition to the smuggling allegation, officials noted reports that a team from the Bajrang Dal faced attempts to be suppressed during the incident, but the police emphasized that the primary focus remains on the cattle‑trafficking investigation.
A police spokesperson stated that any person found guilty of cattle smuggling will face stringent penalties, including fines and imprisonment, as prescribed by law.
The investigation is ongoing, and further details will be released as the case develops.
