The Finance Ministry projects a 7.35% expansion in India’s GDP for the second quarter, indicating that domestic growth remains robust despite a bleak global outlook.

The Ministry of Finance released a provisional estimate that India’s gross domestic product is likely to have risen by 7.35% in the July‑September quarter. The figure, higher than many analysts had anticipated, suggests that the country’s growth engine is holding firm even as major economies grapple with recessionary pressures.

Economists attribute the resilience to sustained consumer spending, continued private investment, and the impact of recent structural reforms. While global demand remains subdued, India’s large domestic market and relatively stable fiscal stance have helped cushion external shocks.

The ministry said the data will be formally presented in the upcoming quarterly review, and it expects the strong performance to support further policy easing if required. Investors have welcomed the outlook, viewing it as a signal that India could outpace many peers in the coming year.

If the forecast materialises, the 7.35% growth rate would mark a significant acceleration from the previous quarter’s 6.8% rise, reinforcing the country’s position as one of the world’s fastest‑growing large economies.
