India and Mexico have started formal talks to negotiate a trade agreement aimed at increasing commerce and investment between the two nations.

New negotiations between India and Mexico were launched this week with the objective of forging a comprehensive trade pact. Both governments said the talks will focus on reducing tariffs, expanding market access for goods and services, and encouraging mutual investment flows.
The dialogue follows a series of high‑level visits and a growing interest in diversifying supply chains beyond traditional partners. Analysts note that a successful agreement could open new avenues for Indian pharmaceuticals, IT services, and agricultural exports, while giving Mexican manufacturers greater entry to the Indian market.
Officials from the Ministry of Commerce in New Delhi and Mexico's Secretariat of Economy have indicated that the talks will run on a phased basis, covering sectors such as renewable energy, automotive components, and digital services. The two sides aim to conclude a draft framework within the next twelve months.
If concluded, the pact would mark the first major bilateral trade agreement between the two economies, potentially boosting bilateral trade, which currently stands at around $10 billion, and strengthening strategic economic ties across the Indo‑Pacific region.
