The India Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rain and thunderstorms hitting Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha within the next two days.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a weather alert on Monday, forecasting heavy rain and thunderstorms across the eastern states of Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha over the next 48 hours. The system indicates that the rain bands will move from the east to the west, bringing intense downpours especially after sunset.
Meteorologists expect the showers to be accompanied by strong gusts, lightning and occasional hail. Local authorities have warned that low‑lying areas could experience flash flooding, while water‑logged roads may disrupt daily commutes and public transport.
Residents are advised to stay indoors, avoid driving through flooded streets, and secure loose objects that could be blown by strong winds. The IMD has urged people to keep mobile phones charged and follow real‑time updates from official channels.
State disaster management teams in the three states have been placed on standby, with additional relief shelters prepared for any displaced families. Power utilities have also been instructed to monitor the grid closely to prevent outages caused by the storm.
