Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GSL) has launched its second next-generation offshore patrol vessel for the Indian Navy, enhancing the country's maritime surveillance capabilities.

Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GSL), a subsidiary of the Defence Public Sector Undertaking (DPSU) of the Ministry of Defence, has successfully launched its second next-generation offshore patrol vessel (OPV) for the Indian Navy. This development marks a significant step in India's indigenous shipbuilding efforts, aimed at strengthening the nation's maritime security architecture.

The launch of this second vessel in the series underscores the growing capability of Indian shipyards to construct advanced naval assets domestically. These next-generation OPVs are designed to perform critical roles in offshore patrol, search and rescue, and anti-submarine warfare, thereby extending the Navy's reach and operational endurance in the Indian Ocean region.

By commissioning such vessels, the Indian Navy aims to maintain a robust presence in its Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and protect vital sea lanes of communication. The indigenous construction of these ships also contributes to the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' (Self-Reliant India) initiative by reducing dependence on foreign imports for critical defence hardware.

The successful launch is expected to be followed by rigorous sea trials and commissioning ceremonies, after which the vessel will be inducted into active service. This addition to the fleet will further bolster the Navy's capacity to monitor maritime activities and respond to security threats in the coastal waters.
