The central government announced an increase in the windfall levy on diesel by three rupees per litre and on aviation turbine fuel by fifty paise per litre.

New Delhi – The Union government has raised the windfall tax on diesel by ₹3 per litre and on aviation turbine fuel (ATF) by 50 paise per litre. The decision was disclosed in a recent fiscal policy statement aimed at curbing excessive fuel price surges.

The additional levy will be added to the existing tax structure, meaning that the final retail price of diesel and ATF is expected to rise accordingly. While diesel is a primary fuel for road transport and agriculture, ATF is crucial for domestic and international airline operations.

Officials indicated that the increase is part of a broader effort to manage fiscal pressures arising from volatile global oil markets. The revised rates will take effect from the next scheduled fuel price revision, impacting consumers, transport operators, and airlines across the country.

The move follows earlier measures to stabilize fuel costs, and the government has not disclosed any further adjustments at this stage.
