Amritsar police have lodged a case against a farmer accused of burning crop residue in his fields, citing violation of environmental rules.

Amritsar police have registered a criminal case against a farmer accused of burning crop residue in his fields, according to a report by Amar Ujala.

The farmer is alleged to have set fire to stubble after the harvest, an act that contravenes Punjab's environmental regulations aimed at curbing air pollution during the post‑harvest season.

Authorities said the case will be investigated under the Punjab Stubble Burning Prohibition Act, and the farmer could face penalties including fines and possible imprisonment if found guilty.
