The Delhi government has activated GRAP 2 anti-pollution measures after the Air Quality Index crossed 300 in the National Capital Region, intensifying restrictions ahead of the Diwali festival.

The Delhi government has officially imposed GRAP 2 (Graded Response Action Plan) anti-pollution curbs across Delhi-NCR. This decision was triggered by the Air Quality Index (AQI) crossing the 300 mark, indicating severe air pollution levels in the region.

The activation of these measures comes at a critical time, just ahead of the Diwali festival, a period traditionally associated with increased use of fireworks and firecrackers which can further degrade air quality. The GRAP 2 stage involves stricter regulations on industrial activities and construction work to mitigate the health hazards posed by poor air quality.

Authorities have emphasized the need for public cooperation to reduce the environmental impact during this festive season. The implementation of GRAP 2 is part of a broader strategy to manage the recurring annual challenge of smog and pollution in the National Capital Region.

Residents are advised to monitor local AQI levels and take necessary precautions, such as wearing masks and limiting outdoor exposure, especially vulnerable groups like children and the elderly.
