Delhi recorded its coldest October day since 1951 with temperatures dropping to 13.2°C, while also experiencing its cleanest air quality for the month in over a decade.
The national capital, Delhi, experienced an unusually sharp drop in temperature this week, marking the coldest October day in the city's recorded history since 1951. Meteorological data indicates that the minimum temperature fell to 13.2 degrees Celsius, a figure that significantly deviates from the typical autumn averages for the region.
This meteorological event coincided with a notable improvement in environmental conditions. For the first time in over a decade, Delhi recorded its cleanest air quality during the month of October. The reduction in particulate matter was attributed to the prevailing cold wave conditions and associated weather patterns that helped disperse pollutants.
Residents across the city reported a distinct chill in the air, prompting a shift in daily routines and wardrobe choices. The combination of low temperatures and improved air quality provided a rare relief from the usual seasonal smog that typically blankets the capital during this time of year.
Weather experts noted that such early onset of winter-like conditions is becoming a point of interest for climatologists monitoring long-term trends in the Indo-Gangetic plain. The data from this specific day will be added to the historical records, serving as a benchmark for future comparisons of autumnal weather patterns in the region.
