Odisha authorities are preparing to airlift people stranded by floodwaters in Ganjam district following heavy rainfall from Cyclone Arnab.

Odisha state authorities have initiated preparations to airlift residents stranded by rising floodwaters in the Ganjam district. The rescue operations are being intensified in response to the severe weather conditions brought about by Cyclone Arnab.

Heavy rainfall has been recorded in the region, with two rain gauge stations at Patrapur and Sorada in Ganjam district registering precipitation exceeding 50 cm within a 24-hour period. This intense downpour has led to significant waterlogging, isolating communities and necessitating immediate evacuation measures.

The administration is coordinating with rescue teams to ensure the safe evacuation of affected individuals. Airlifts are being arranged to reach areas where ground transport is compromised by the depth of the floodwater. The focus remains on ensuring the safety of those trapped in vulnerable locations.

Local officials are monitoring the situation closely as the cyclone's impact continues to be felt across the district. The rapid response aims to mitigate the risks associated with the ongoing flooding and heavy rains.
