Analysts say the BJP, once marginal in 2022, now holds a higher vote share than the SAD and is using urban strength and recent AAP defections to erode the ruling party's base.
In the 2022 electoral cycle, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was considered a peripheral force in several key states, struggling to make significant inroads against regional parties. Since then, the party has recalibrated its approach, focusing on demographic segments where it can gain traction.
Recent data shows the BJP now commands a higher vote share than the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), signalling a shift in its competitive standing. The party's momentum in urban constituencies, where it has been able to project development narratives, is a core component of its strategy to chip away at the Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) urban strongholds.
Adding to this, a number of AAP legislators and local leaders have defected to the BJP, bringing with them established grassroots networks and credibility among voters. These defections are being leveraged to present the BJP as a viable alternative with both experience and local relevance.
Looking ahead, the BJP is eyeing a partnership with the SAD to extend its reach into rural areas where the AAP has limited presence. By aligning with the SAD's rural machinery, the BJP hopes to create a dual‑front offensive that could further diminish the AAP's vote bank across the state.
