BJP MP Vikramjit Singh Calls for Modi to Receive Bharat Ratna

In a speech in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, BJP MP Vikramjit Singh called for the Prime Minister to be conferred the Bharat Ratna for his unconditional services to the nation. He likened Modi’s contributions to those of Jawaharlal Nehru, the country’s first prime minister. Singh said that the award would recognize Modi’s leadership in economic reforms, foreign policy and national security. The Bharat Ratna, instituted in 1954, is India’s highest civilian honour and has been awarded to figures such as Mother Teresa, Mahatma Gandhi and A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.
